A mechanic mate of mine down here in Oz - only uses diesel engine oil as lubricant in his petrol motor. He claims that the detergent factor in the diesel oil helps keep the oil galleries and motor free of sludge and carbon deposits. He doesn't know the pleasure of driving a Vanagon but prefers to drive a Mazda 8 seater van. Recently he was forced to strip down his motor for a rings and bearing job. Looking at his block and head sure looks clean even with over 200,000 kms on it.

With all the previous postings about different oils and the synthetic vrs fossil question, I thought I would throw this titbit into the center. Any one got any ideas on this.

Ray.
