Kudo's to Ron for setting up the archive! We will continue to provide new services for the list as time permits.

Speaking of list funds. Ron & I have reversed roles of sorts. Since he now has the list server on-site, he'll be making purchases for the server. That is he'll be spending funds, so I'll now be collecting them. This way we have a "checks-n'-balances', accounting for funds received and funds spent are in two seperate hands. In some repects this is a pain in the derriere, but it avoids "questions" (if you catch my drift). You can send donations to:

Chris Smith San Diego Supercomputer Center University of California P.O. Box 85608 San Diego, CA 92186-5608

This is how the system works (as it has in the past). I receive and cash the checks and Ron posts the current tally on the web site. Ron makes purchases (usually out of pocket!) and sends me receipts for which I (we, the list!) reimburse him. All of these transactions are posted on the vanagon web site: http://www.vanagon.com/

The current reserve is $201.14.

This amount is a tad on the low side. We would like to carry a reserve of at least $500. This reserve is important in that it provides for necessary preventative maintenances, repairs and software upgrades. And in extreme cases, when/if the machine goes down due to a hardware problem, it's too late to start raising funds. Think of it as having money in the bank on that rainy day!

Your vanagon list admins,

Ron "Coyote" Lussier, LikeMinds (San Francisco, CA) Chris Smith, SDSC-UCSD (San Diego, CA)
