Hi Volks, Recently I was asked where to get a new propane tank for a westy. Well, for those who don't know, they are made by the Manchester Tank Company. Their number is 800-877-8265. I published this number in the LiMBO newsletter and I got a call tell me that the number wasn't right. Well, I double check the number and its right. In fact I talked to a nice woman named Vicki Paxton and she told me what you need when you call her to order a new tank. So here goes.

There is a plate welded to the side of the tank. If possible get the numbers off of that and have them ready when you call. If that isn't possible then measure the tank for lenght and size around.

Now, I can get new tanks through VW part# 253-070-601. They are quite expensive. 636 buck retail. I can probably sell them for 515 dollars. Thats even if they have them at the depot. Who knows they may have to order them direct from Manchester.

Now Vicki told me that the tanks mounted on RV's are different than your run of the mill BBQ grill tank. They don't need to be replace. They do need to be inspected by a real propane dealer, like Suburban propane, not some guy who just fills BBQ tanks. They will check them out and certify them. I've had mine done and they even painted it for me. Vicki was quite nice and gave me her direct number 800-640-6327. She deals exclusively with RV tanks, so she knows her stuff. Good luck to anyone who needs a tank. Take care. --
