Was checking out the new Beetle at the local -- Salt Lake City -- auto show and had a chance to ask a VWOA rep about the Eurovan. He said in April they would start selling EV's in three configurations -- base, MV and Weekender. So, sounds to me like the ones here in the states won't all be upscale luxo models. Also, I asked about engines and he said the ONLY engine available would be the VR6. When I asked about the possibility of the TDI making it into the EV, he said that VW has a 6-cylinder TDI they're going to soon introduce for both the newly-styled Passat AND the Eurovan. Cool. Last question was about the Syncro, and he said that VW's consumer research has shown that the market for such an EV is too small to justify it. By the way, the new Beetle is pretty bitchen. Even better in the flesh than I expected.
