Subject: interesting V6 Diesel Vanagon?

Hi all,

On the subject of engine swaps, I was talking to a Mr Goodwrench aquaintance about the fuel injected 3.1 Liter V6 motor I put into a former Diesel Vanagon. He asked me why I would choose that particular motor, and I said that it was because there was no Diesel V6 available in the US. He corrected me and told me that there was a V6 Diesel available in limited quantities in the 1983 through 1986 full sized Oldsmobiles. It was a 4.3 Liter Diesel, available only as a non-turbo. He said that a turbo add on kit is available from Banks Turbo Systems.

So, after hearing about this mythical & rare V6 Diesel, I happened to see one in the Atlanta Advertiser for sale. To install one of these into the Vanagon one would need a Kennedy adapter setup that is the same as the 3.8/4.3 gas V6. I have one of these adapter setups left over from the locked-up motor that I pulled out of the van to install the injected 3.1. Best offer over $500.00 gets everything, including the locked (GM gas V6) motor if you can tote it back with you in a pickup or trailer (or Vanagon). This includes a bunch of stuff that Kennedy won't even tell you that you need. E-mail for details.

Top speed for such a beast would be very low, being limited by the low RPM range of the GM Diesel motor, unless a special ring and pinion could be installed into the Vanagon's gearbox. Torque would be amazing. One could probably tow Rhode Island around behind a Vanagon equipped with this motor. ;-)

Here is the info on how to get in touch with the owner of the (running?) Diesel V6 motor: " '84 Olds V6 Diesel engine, $150. Ackworth, GA (770) 926-3094"
