<< installing an audi 5000T engine is a better one. >>

ok..i'd like to do this, but it seems unfeasable for people w/ automatic vans, since the vanagon isnt offered w/ auto trans in SA....(stupid, ain't it??) i just talked to Hobart Kennedy today, and for some reason he wasnt in favor of the Audi 5 (don't know why...they're damn good engines...the accesories on the car that they're in, that's the problem.. ;<) but seriously, i drive an audi 5000 turbo daily, and it has 150k mi and never even had the valve covers off... i really think Hobart is missing something not looking into this... Helmut - did you have to raise the rear deck (engine lid) height to install the 5cyl? also, anybody else have any suggestions for putting the audi 5 into a Vgon w/ auto trans?? the Soobaroo 2.2 sounds like a great engine, but the audi 5 is a good engine too, and alot more avaliable, and cheaper to buy... (can get a good audi turbo 5cyl eng from the local yard for 100 bucks, just nds a turbo (BTDT on my own car) any ideas??

chris

If you are speaking of Kennedy Engineering, I had the same problem. Was advising that the Corvair was a marginal engine for the bus but everyone I have talked to says is was pretty good engine. Maybe there's that perfect engine and Corvair and Audi aren't them. Maybe it's a 350 Chevy or die. Good Travels!
