Listees,

There is an excellent post from Steve Hoge in the archives dated 1/5/96 pointing out that there was a running change during the 1989 model year of manufacture and that Syncro front outer boots differ depending on whether the vanagon was made before or after this date.

This post is to ask if anyone knows why this would be so. This means that my 1990 vehicle cannot use the boots made for 1987 vehicles, for example. I have a spare boot kit, but now am afraid that I cannot use it because this spare outer front boot kit might be for the pre-89 vehicles.

I notice that the fiche says that when buying the boot plus CV Joint there is no difference by year, however.

I only sell one boot for the outer joint on ALL years of the Syncro. I sell the white boot only and ALSO have complete New Axles for $250.00 each.

I'd tend to belive the Fiche instead of some of the people on the list that "Claim" thay know what they're talking about. I'm NOT trying to be mean here, just pointing out that many of us have been doing this a long time and this IS all we do on a daily basis.

I myself have been working on VW's since I was 12 and I'm 32 know.

My mom had a Notchback when I was born and we've Always had a vw. She drove a 71 type 3 until a year ago:(

So to get back ON Topic, I don't see a difference in any of the boots, I hope you have a White boot for your own sake, but time will tell if it's NOT a white boot how soon you'll get to do the job a second time?
