Kenneth:

Assuming the ignition switch setup is the same as on my '81 (I think it
is) and having just replaced mine, the repair is not too hard, maybe an
hour or so of work.

From memory:

Remove lower and upper plastic cowlings that surround the steering
column.  Undo the two hex-head bolts that clamp the ignition lock/switch
assembly to the column.  Pry off the horn "button" and remove it.  Undo
the large nut holding on the steering wheel and remove it.  Remove turn
signal assembly (two screws).  Put the key in the lock and make sure the
steering wheel lock is dis-engaged.  Pull the ignition lock/switch
assembly off the column.

I think most manuals show using a puller to get this piece off, but I
didn't find that to be necessary.  Maybe a few light taps with a hammer.
