It sounds like hydraulic lifters sticking. I once had a similar problem after my vanagon had been stored for awhile. To loosen them up, I used a motor oil additive that GM sells. It is called Goodwrench Engine Oil Supplement concentrate #1052367. I purchased it at the GM dealership after I consulted with my friendly VW dealer parts salesperson. That stuff seemed to work pretty well. I first did an oil change and then added the 16 oz bottle to the fresh oil. After some driving, the clicking sounds disappeared.
