I'm about to purchase a complete automatic '81-'82 Vanagon for really cheap money ($300)... stats: Runs great, needs some body work, interior is pretty bad... basically I want it for the motor and F/I system... I have a '73 Westy automatic with an unknown size motor... PO claims Bus was sold to her with a motor that had recently been rebuilt to 2.0L specs... Engine # is CDXXX which means 1.8L to me... engine has low compression on # 3 cylinder (had a broken exhaust stud and she drove to NH from Idaho like that... Sold the bus as both carbs were leaking terribly and it had hard start problem). My bus is currently running single Weber 2-barrel carb would like to install 2.0L engine complete with F/I system from the Vanagon into my '73 (I Like Fuel Injection<<G>>), but could covert to Weber for awhile if need be... I realize I'll have to change the tin and rig up something from the heater boxes to the stock '73 system. is there anything else that might prevent me from doing this conversion?? I'll be using the '73 Flex plate instead of the Vanagon unit (hopefully will bolt right up...) or would I be better off swapping in the Vanagon auto tranny too...? I need to let the fella know if I want it by the weekend, any prompt answers would be appreciated... Will probably buy it anyway, but really would like to use my Westy this summer and this seems to be a inexpensive way to upgrade and be sure of engine size.
