I had the same trouble with my 88GL when I purchased it in 89. I tried to get it off - got bent. Next I hammered a long screw driver through it and tried to twist it off. Nope - only 1/2 tore off. Dah - now I can't drive it. I used vice grips to remove the remaining metal shell and filter parts. Finally I had to chisle it off - and it really took a lot of pounding to get the bottom plate off! The dealer said that it was probably put on in the factory with an air tool. Gary 88GL, 80 Westy |
