Bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzt!!!! WRONG

They were made in Brazil. Known at VW at the time as "Project 3". The cause of their demise was that Brazil decided they wanted a cut of VW profits and attached an export tax to all newly manufactured cars being shipped out of Brazil, which caused the great low price of an entry-level car to soar here in the US.

VW was very ticked and threatened to pull their entire operation out of Brazil, and being one of Brazil's largest employers they eventually relented. But it was too late, the damage was done and the Fox died.

I love my 91 Fox Wagon GL. Just turned over 60k miles on it yesterday. I love getting 32+ mpg and it's fully loaded with every option the original owner did when he bought it (happens to be my best buddy too).
