**The solution involved gently tapping the starter motor and solenoid with
a
hammer.  Usually after 5-10 taps it will work perfectly.  Would the typical
Muir relay fix solve this problem?  Or is it more likely that the thing is
dirty and needs to be rebuilt?

'84 Westy**

We had the same problem with our '84 Westy. It wouldn't start when run in
hot temperatures. Things that would get it going included: First hold the
key on for about five seconds, If that failed we sometimes jumped it. Only
right before we finally got it fixed did we learn about banging the
starter. In Wyoming we had a ford relay put on the starter by a garage that
had a lot of old busses on the lot. We drove from Wyoming to Maine in
August heat with out the problem happening again. Anyone know of any
problems with this fix?
