Here is the real skinny on Foxes, Engine made in Brazil, car assembled in
Mexico.  Later models have the 1.8l motor just like the Golf or Jetta but
rated for 5 less HP.  I have always considered them the "odd duck" of the VW
family because so many of the other VW's share similar parts and the Fox has
alot of Fox only parts (kinda sounds like the Vanagon too don't it?).  My
friend has one that he drove to school everyday this year.  It has somewhere
over 100k miles with no major problems.  It usually has a 4 speed tranny but
the gearing is such that you're not wishing for a 5 gear.
