To my esteemed VW Van comrades on the list:

Jim Davis' recent comments on oil system operation prompted this.

Recently when our regular server was down, the archives were inaccessible, and there were many of us who were lost without the access.

My question is this........... has there ever been consideration of getting the archived accumulation(redundant?) of experience put together in a printed form as a reference book?

Computers are wonderful, but when appear the little green glitches with the red feathers in their caps, all hell breaks loose inside and all that wonderful information is not available, and even has the potential of being lost forever.........list owner/moderator gets sick, dies(heaven forbid! --- ---long life please!)gets old and tired, atomic blast magnetic pulse, whatever!!!

I have read, used, and enjoyed Muirs book over the years, and though a match for it on the vans probably would never be produced, an organized, indexed, printed complilation of all the experience and information in the archive would seem appropriate. Lot of work, but desktop publishing could handle printing, and keep cost down.

A printed publication inclusive of all information up to, say, the end of 1997, and then an annual update, perhaps in loose-leaf form, so it could be added to a three-ring binder would seem appropriate.

Are there among us those who would purchase such a publication? I swear by my Bently's but it still falls short, and such a document would certainly at least complement the Bently.

Any comment?
