The difference is the disc on the very bottom. For some reason in the Syncro, VW used an Aluminum thermostat housing and changed the hole that this disc covers. I have run both types of Thermostat with only very miner change in temperature. The housing maybe the problem. I would like to change mine and see if there is any significant difference. This maybe why they run hotter then the 2 wheelers. Anyone got a good use housing they want to give up in the name of Vanagon research cheap? Eric
