Copyright notices do not have to attached anymore to establish copyright,
at least in the US.

This is the first I noticed on the subject of burning a CD. I suppose it
might be worthwhile occasionally, assuming that it were properly indexed.
But I would have some questions regarding the ethics of anyone attempting
to profit off of the contents of this list in such a manner. (I don't know
if anyuone has suggested doing so but just to crash the party...)

consider that many people paid cash to move the mailing list over to a new
server (which now seems to be running well). Also consider that many people
contribute their time to helping others solve problems on this list.
Is it fair to any of these people to effectively take their time and money?

I don't want my text incorporated into a CD that someone else is going to
make a buck off of, at least without a suitable payment to me!

I would suggest that any CD produced should be distributed at cost. If
indexing software needs to be licensed that's part of the cost, but I'll
bet there are low-cost options available. All production and manufacturing
costs should be documented and posted. Any money made after costs should be
rolled back into server maintenance.

Oh yeah, the CD should work in both my PC *and* my Mac! (And I'll bet
people will want Unix versions as well.)
