This may be the second time this has been submitted, but...

In most cases a good meaty vanagon (in this case Syncro) question like I
previously posted illicits replies far and wide, but it appears that either this
condition I described has never been experienced before or it did not post
properly. So, I will try again...



A friend is looking at a used '87 Syncro which has a whining noise on
deceleration, coming from the front differential area. I have heard
warnings about whining noises in Syncros, but a local (reputable) VW dealer
mechanic who has worked on many Syncros states that he has never come across a
bad viscous coupling! (somewhere in vanagon.com it states -when looking to buy a
used Syncro, listen for any whines or electrical noises for a potentially bad
viscous coupling @ $4000 part cost, !ouch!)  Any advice would be much
appreciated.

Ken (Wilford), how is your experience with Syncros?
