I did this to my 87. Mounting the wiper assembly and reservoir is simple. Routing the fluid tubing and wiring is troublesome, but worth it. The tubing/wiring uses a little hose piece to connect from the hatch to the body above the hatch on the right side. You have one like it on the left side for the window defogger wiring already. Drilling for this connection is a real pain if the hatch is on the van. I started to take my hatch off, but the bolts didn't want to budge and I didn't want to push it. The wiring is clearly NOT in place. :( Instead of using the VW column switch I just installed a seperate switch to operate the wiper and washer pump.

BTW, I installed power door locks in the rear htach at the same time. Used a used latch mechanism from the same donor van as the wiper. COuldn't figure a decent way to do this without this piece of original VW hardware.
