Hi,

I wasn't going to respond to this at first as I haven't yet had any head problems but since I have seen others respond who have had problems at less milage than ours, here you go as something else to compare...

Vehicle: 1992 Transporter WBX (Multivan in US speak)

1.When have the heads/gaskets caused problems?

No problems what so ever at 124,500km (approx 75,000m)

2.How is the Vanagon driven?

Daily Driver (well at least 4 days per week) 15min. drive if my wife takes it 55min. drive if I do Always gets up to operating temp whenever used

3.Was VW coolant used?

Religiously and changed every 18months or so.

We are also the original owners and it has been serviced by trustworthy VW dealer/mechanic (from whom we purchased it new) at every recommended service interval so not having to cope with uncaring or ignorant previous owners may have played a part in it's reliability thus far... Still on original brake pads all round too (not a city vehicle)
