Skip the braided cable, check your FLAPS for a black insulated ground cable with a stud terminal on each end. Get one long enough to allow some slack or an even longer one and loop it once before attaching the second end. The insulated jacket will protect is from the elements and will last longer than the exposed braided type.

As to the spring clamps, can't help ya there, I prefer the stainless steel worm screw type. If they need to be adjusted due to aging rubber, maybe the hose should be replaced...<G>. If your FLAPS doesn't carry the stainless steel type, check with a swimming pool dealer, they usually carry stainless types due to the chemical exposure involved.
