Fellow Listees,

I recall a recent spate of discussions amongst our Vanagon-owning brethren beleaguered by engine-swap choices, with some list members showing a smattering of interest in the present generation of VW diesel engines. I have recently purchased a few NEW (read NOT rebuilt) OEM 1.9L VW factory tirbo- diesel engines, complete from valve-cover to oil-pan, assembled with all manifolds, turbo-charger, injection pump etc. These are turnkey motors, complete, as used in Golf/Jetta/Passat in overseas markets, so they are automotive engines, not the VW Industrial engine type as mentioned in some recent posts. They are of the conventional indirect-injection, swirl-chamber type, (NOT TDI) with mechanical injection pump with turbo-boost-enrichment, and are very very nice! I installed one into one of my Westies here at the shop, and it drives like a dream. Gobs of low-end torque (almost all of it available at about 1800RPM), about 80-90HP with a little fiddling with the pump, probably a bunch more horses if an intercooler is used.

They are only available in extremely limited quantity, and the selling price to Vanagon List members is $3995 + shipping, and is strictly on a first-come basis. When they're gone, they're gone, so if you are thinking of putting a bullet-proof motor in your Vanagon and giving it a new lease on life, better grab one of these.

I can be reached either by e-mail, or at 714-283-2966.

Sincerely,

Vic Ahmed, Madras Motors, Inc.
