Here I go:
I was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina 32 years ago. A month later I was
living in Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego, the southermost city in the world.
My first car was a Renault Gordini, like the ones you see in those 50's
french movies. My second car was a Citroen 2CV, my fisrt aircooled!
(only these have only two cylinders). After that came another Renault
(12 TL). Hitchiked all Argentina and the rest of South America. Did two
years of Law school in Buenos Aires, decided it was not my thing and
made an abrupt change in my life by coming to study architecture to the
States. Lived for three years in the Santa Cruz mountains, CA. (Remember
the Big One? I was living two miles away fro Loma Prieta, the
epicenter). By that time I already owned a '69 kombi and a '68 bug.
In '92 I was part of a group of six that traveled from CA. to Buenos
Aires playing music and doing environmental theater for kids in an old
school van. Six of the best months of my life, no doubt.
Moved to Eugene, OR. to finish my architecture degree at the University
of Oregon. Bought a split window bus and a Renault 18i Sportswagon. (I
must say that Renaults in the rest of the world are much better than
those in the States). Got married to another Argentinian, Barbara.
Together, we travelled throughout the States in VW buses. Discover
places by day, sleep in a rest area at night, kind of thing.
Nowadays I work as an architect in Eugene, for a firm that does
residential, commercial and institutional work. Having a steady job has
allowed me to buy a small house which we are fixing, and-best of all-
"Fafner", a '91 Westie. I still have my old splitty in the garage.
About two years ago bought a PC and discovered the internet, and with it
the Vanagon list. From that point on you can call me a VW addict...
Last year I helped to create two VW organizations in the Pacific
Northwest: Volkwagens of Western Oregon (VWofWO)
(http://www.peak.org/~maynardj), and The WetWesties
(http://members.tripod.com/~torlasco/WetWesties.html)
And that's me in a nutshell...
Later,
Cris.
