I grew up in a small town called Bentheim in Germany across from the Dutch border. It is home to a beautiful salt water spa and a medieval castle. There were lots of volkwagens around, beetles, pickups, and all the other air and water-cooled models. After I graduated from college, I went travelling with two friends in an old rusty '68 orange and beige VW bus to Greece via Amsterdam. Somehow a few months later, I ended up in San Francisco, and have lived on this side of the Atlantic ever since.

Now my wife and I live and work in the Pacific Northwest. We have done a lot of traveling in volkswagen vans. One of my bigger vw-related accomplishments was towing a 2,500 lb ocean-going sailboat with a '72 pop-top bus from Key West, FL to Santa Cruz, CA during August through the Arizona desert. Yes, I did once drive with the pop-top up on the freeway. The Louisiana heat and humidity must have gotten to me, but it sure cooled the bus down. Favorite cities are San Francisco and Amsterdam. Other favorite places are Key West, especially sailing out to Snipe Point. Santa Cruz and Mendocino, California. I enjoy living in the Pacific Northwest. Lots of beautiful places to go camping with our '90 westy.
