This is an argument suggesting you rethink this.

Sometimes I read my Vanagon mail every hour.

Other times, I read it only after *two months*!! when I am really busy. I have had occaision to go as long as three months without reading a single post but letting them pile up in my Vanagon mailbox in Eudora and then reading them on summer vacation.

If I were required to respond within 7 days, then I could be out of luck. This would leave me with weeks or months of stuff missing from my personal archive and drive me nuts wondering how to get the messages back from somebody into Eudora format.

I say that if you want to implement this task, that you give us six to eight weeks to respond to your query, and that you only do it quarterly. Better yet, consider not doing it at all. One of the great things about the Vanagon list is that you can neglect it. If you really had to pay attention to it all the time for fear of getting dropped, those of us with real jobs and real lives, families, etc. would be under excessive pressure, and we might lose some good people.
