Well, shoot, everybody else is doing it, and I'm tired of reading about copyright law, so here goes.

I'm 51, I think (it keeps changing), and I have an '81 Westie, in really great shape (the van -- I'm in average shape). My sister bought it from the original owner in 1987. They lived in CA, had been to Alaska and across Canada twice in her, and bought a new one. My sister put about 6000 miles on the van in the 10 years she had it, and basically gave it to me when the engine died. I put an AVP rebuild in her, and the rest was fine.

The interior was mint, and everything worked. It is my third VW. I had a couple of bugs early on. The one I got in college (Michigan State) was a 57, I think, with a fabric sunroof.

Anyway, I teach Computer Science and Astronomy at our local Community College, have a wife, two grown sons, three dogs, three parrots, a ferret, a cat, and a rapidly growing population of fish in several ponds in the backyard.

I live in SE Arizona, a few miles outside of the town of Willcox (dark skies!), so I have my choice of climates. Willcox is at around 4500' of elevation, which makes it quite a bit cooler than Phoenix (it snows here). Within two hours, I can range from 1500' to about 8500', and from low desert to spruce/fir woodlands. I'm told that 1000' of elevation is the same as 400 miles north to south. The ocean is about 4 hours away, and a lot of really nice lakes are reasonably close (we also like old boats and fishing). It may surprise many to learn that Arizona has more boats registered per capita than any other state. Everyone thinks of desert, because that's where the big cities are located, but the state is covered with mountains, and much of it is wooded.

If you want to know any more, check out my web site.
