But thanks fo the advice of Joel, Kyle and others on this list, I conquered it when I cleaned the computer (ECU) connections, i.e.; the plug and connector, with electronic contact cleaner. You'll find the ECU in a black metal box on the left side under the rear seat.

Thanks for all who responded with words of advice to my posting "Need help with 86 GL Ignition Problems". You kept the VW dealer from a hugh profit from me!
