A few people wrote me asking how I get from SE Arizona to the ocean in 4 hours or so, so here's how I do it.

You go west out of Tucson, toward Ajo, but turn south before you get to Ajo. You cross the Mexican border at Lukeville, in the Organ Pipe National Monument. The Organ Pipe National Monument is about 50 as-the-crow-flies miles (about 70 by road) from the Gulf of California, which has salt water and everything. :-) You end up in Rocky Point (Puerto Penasco), which is a pretty neat place.

From where I live, it's a bit over an hour to Tucson, a bit under two to the Mexican border, and an hour from there to Rocky Point. If you get held up at the border because it's crowded (lots of people from around here make that a weekend destination) that could add a few minutes.
