Last nite I had a not completely unintended good experience with Techron. Brought a bottle home for the '88 Vanagon, poured it in thinking that the Vanagon tank was 3/4 full or more. Hour later daughter needs to go out, we get in the Van, start, and discover nearly empty. Uh-oh, I had poured Techron into an empty tank. Well maybe the super high concentration will just make it work better at cleaning the injectors. Yeah, thats it, this is good!

'Bout 3 miles away, cough sputter, cylinders alternately not firing. Uh-oh. Figure either I have screwed up big time and have damaged something, or the Techron is a lousy substitute for gas. 2 miles to go to the gas station.

Nurse it in, fill with 89, discover $2 in wallet. "Will you take a Mastercard?" OK, return to the Vanagon expecting a no-start or tough-start situation. Surprise, starts and runs perfectly. How the fill-up got gasoline all through the F.I. system without the engine running is beyond me.

Bottom line: The high concentration of Techron *did* do a great job of cleaning the injectors. Idle - rock steady, off idle miss-gone, high end power- improved. I was trying to eliminate the let out the clutch miss/bog, and it appears that I did.

I don't know what's in Techron, or if I might have done any long term damage, but my unintended experiment seems to have worked...so far.

Gary
