Hey there, now this request is not for the weak of heart. If you like puzzels and think you know your way around a vW engine blind folded, then this is for you. This is my last ditch effort before having the van brought in to a mechanic. I'd prefer hands on direction, but repeated requests have failed to bring forth another Ithaca, or Cortland NY list member.

The challenge,

Help Eric, legally blind, mechanical want to be, with about 16 years experiance fumbling around under campers, find the damb coolant leak!!! I smell it after a trip. I have to add coolant occasionally to the overflow tank. And I have had friends point out drops under the engine. They seem to be under the right side of the engine. I've tried feeling arond for wet areas on the engine or hoses with no luck. Can anyone offer some specific directions? It does seem to be getting worse even though we haven't put many miles on the car. Any direction will be appreciated.

Easier challange,

Recently the sound of a belt squeeling has started from the engine compartment when the gas is depressed. This happens both in gear and in neutral. Is it time for new belts or adjusting of the tention. or both?

I have recently spent too much money getting the car ready for summer. The problem is that I need a new garage to go to. My old shop lost their, great VW mechanic, and now talk as if they can still do quality work at a good price, but do neither.

Help

Eric
