Thanks to all who answered my recent post about fourth gear popping out of my 85 Vanagon. I took the messages to my VW guys. They read them all!

The good news is they replaced my transmission with a good, used one for the price they quoted just to fix the old one. And they did this because my husband is terminally ill, and they want to help. Love those VW Volks! The bad news is that I can't report exactly what the problem is with the original tramsission because they are still working on it. All I know is that they took the risk and helped us out. They also did the re-build on the engine in December for a decent price.

If anyone needs good VW service and they live near Cedar Rapids, Iowa, go to:

John Brune Midwest Import Repair 748 Center Point Rd. N.E. Cedar Rapids, IA 319-365-2809

John's been working on VW's forever. He was just featured in The Cedar Rapids Gazette article about the new Beetle because his passion is restoring Beetles. He says, "Driving a 60's model, with the steel dashboard, that's the experience."

Thanks again, Jill
