A little side step on the topic here, and don't have any first hand experience with Diesels other than the Rabbit Pickup that I used to own. But it is interesting to note the Eurospec in Califonia is selling NEW 1.9L long blocks. Page 121 of May's European Car magazine has an ad of some of the they offer. They advertise it as "New 1.9 Liter diesel long blocks for 1.6 conversions. Complete with all timing components and vacuum pump. All other existing 1.6 liter accessories are used." They list three sets of prices: Rabbit / Golf = $1995, Quantum / Fox = $1995, Vanagon = $2195 Personally I would install the 2.0L Gasoline Long Block for $1495 but this is a discussion on Diesels! I have no idea wheather or not you can bolt on turbo on these or not.
