When attempting to pull the radio from the dash, (while using the 4 hole technique), I separated the face plate from the chassis of the radio. Discovered that there is a "ribbon connector" similar to that used in computers that is "plugged-in" to the face plate. Mine became partially unplugged and also would not accept any input from the face plate buttons. This ribbon wire is at the very bottom of the face plate.

The problem with restoring the connection is that it's not actually a "plug" that goes in but the butt end of the ribbon wire. I ended up pushing it in with the eraser end of a pencil. It's not easy, but I'll bet this is your problem. Good luck.
