After a few replies from the list re: a/c while camping...I decided that I could not afford the Toyotomi Portable A/C (600.00 plus), and I did not want to mount a window unit up in the luggage area.

I purchased a used 5000 btu unit from a local shop for 100.00. Then I took a piece of foam pipe insulation and laid it over the window sill of the driver side door for protection. Slipped in the A/C unit on top of the insulation. Ran a short cargo strap from one of the strap hooks in the cargo hold to the back of the A/C unit to hold it up. Cut up some foam to fill in the gaps around the unit, ran and extension cord and cranked it up.

Within an hour....it was nice and chilly in the van (with the top-popped)....and that was mid-day in the Florida sun. At night....it gets too cold and I have to turn it all the way down.

It's not the most attractive thing in the world, but for 100.00....it's hard to beat! Once the foam is cut to size, it is reusable and the whole thing can be set up or torn down in less than 5 minutes.

Now I can continue camping throughout the Florida summer and keep comfy on those windless, oh-so humid nights!
