Joanna, a while back, my front inner cv went out and i had it rebuilt vs replaced. I happened to find a specialty shop that did only CV and axle rebuilds. This was cheaper than buying a rebuilt half shaft assembly (which i would have had to install) and waaaaaaay cheaper than getting the VW dealer to do it (locally, the dealer has a specialty shop do their work for them, so they are just middle men taking profit). The specialty shop did the whole job: removal of half shaft and rebuilding, repainting, rebooting of both CVs on the half shaft and re installation for $190.

(for SLC list members, this shop is CV axle express on the east side of west temple, just south of 2100s)

later, fred
