Subject: 3 groove pulley and oil seal
Comments: To: vanagon@vanagon.com

Hello- Is there anyone in the SF Bay Area who might happen to have a tool for holding the three groove pulley while attempting to remove/ install it? I think I need to replace the main oil seal on the crank and have to get the pulley off to do so. I found a suggestion on making such a tool in the archive, but I lack a drill press (or a drill) to create such a beast.

On replacing the main seal - does anyone make a tool for installing this? The Bentley uses VW tool 3038, but I don't happen to have a VW tool shop down the road (that I know of). Does anyone if VW 3038 is flat on the seal side? If it is, does anyone know its thickness and diameter so that I might recreate one with a stack of washers if possible?

Thanks in advance

dave
