Just recently South African manufacturers in general (textiles, etc., not neccessarily automotive) were complaining about the extremely high U.S. import duties on South African goods (basically a carry over from the Apartheid days), which make their goods uncompetitive here. Clinton's recent visit there touched on the issue, but no steps have been taken yet to remedy it. I have not specifically researched the import duty on auto parts, so maybe it's different, but I would strongly advise looking into it before proceeding with any list deal, lest you get a costly surprise when the goods arrive. As for myself, I will import South African Vanagon accessories eventually, but for now the I already have my hands full with the List Deals I'm running on poptop skylights and Haynes manuals. (The latter are due in today or tomorrow, by the way.) -Ron Salmon The Bus Depot http://www.busdepot.com |
