Thanks to all who replayed. I learned much about CIS, more than I could find in the manuals. But the failure was different and that easy: When I disassembled the spark distributor I marked the exact position to find the right timing of it. I put all parts back according to the manual and set the timing to that mark again. I thought, all is right, but I was wrong. Friday evening, just in case, I turned the distributor to early, and the engine starts to run. The timing was more than 10 degrees too late. I found one position where the van run on low power, but just fine for driving. I took it to one of my friends to adjust the timing with the flash light. Now it runs great. I have to do the final tune up during the smog check next week. I learned, that the manual isn't right every time. You have to know what you're doing. The manual is a remainder, not a law. First result is, that the engine is not as noisy as before. This is because some broken sealing I changed at the exhaust manifold. Now I have 'A Gaudi' again. Helmut '80 Vanagaudi |
