Gents and Ladies and Volks, Belle and I saw an EV in Flamingo, FL (find it at the end of FL in the Everglades!). The owner had made paper pattern traced around the metal surrounding the front windows. Then took a window material for drapes; he called it the drapery liner, and cut out the pattern. Next he sewed (this is the great idea, too) magnetic strips that you get from the fabric store around the pattern where it would contact the metal around the outside of the windows (make two, but reverse one to make it fit!). Finall, the glass area is cut out of this fabric and magnetic frame and a good, small insect screen (mingies are very small) was sewn into the area. Now, you can roll down your power windows and get a good breeze in the front compartment. The magnetic strips was a wonderful idea. I have the fellow's address and will get him to subscribe to the list as soon as I write this note to you. All of the sewing is flat so it is easy to learn to do. The screen for the back hatch is a huge thing that attaches to the lip around the hole with bungey cord or, worse, Velcro material. Several people in the group have sewed this pattern and have better experience. Gary from Maine |
