About the clutch, normally with a 2WD the transmission can be moved forward to access the clutch. With 4WD the transmission is more limited to where it can move. If I were going to change my clutch... I'd pray for it to be the one on my Rabbit Pickup! With my Syncro I would remove the engine. Totally removing it from the Van my not be in order but moving it back and down a bit in front is definatly in order... While you are at it replace all the oil seals and bearing... you only want to do it once!
