Subject: '86 Fried AC/switch-solutions??

Hello all, I have had a problem that I have fixed but am still worried about. The AC in my Westy didn't turn on last year so I investigated the switch. I found that one of the terminals for the rotary knob (inner knob) that controls fan speed of the AC was totally fried/burnt off. Fortunately I had an '83 GTI that didn't have AC but had the switch. So I switched them. All works now but the same terminal seems to get a bit hot!!! I don't like that for obvious reasons. My certified mechanic friend used some sort of meter thing to check the amperage (I think) throughout the system and just concluded that it was just a bad design (which frankly surprises me). Anyone else have this problem? Any cures? I do think I'll put a lighter fuse in the system but I still don't like it!

Eric
