If you're not going to pull the jugs, it is probably worthwhile to put the van on jack stands (get it nice and high) and do the heads in the car. With the added height of the stands, you won't be killing your neck and your torque wrench will probably have enough room so you can get a nice full range of motion while torquing the head bolts (if your wrench is like mine). If you're going to remove the jugs to do the rings, I really don't see how one can remove the oil filler pipe AND replace it without removing the rear hanger with torquing that little nut to anything near the right amount. It's a tight fit on the nut nearer the crank.

I was told that reusing this ring was a bad idea - you could soon coolant mixing with your oil. The ring was pretty tough to replace - was worried about it seating in the groove properly - but my worrying ended up being kind of unfounded - the ring was perfectly seated when I pulled the jugs just yesterday.
