Subject: Questions: Clear Coat and Westie Stoves & "Geez,
              my Vanagon is Peachy"
Comments: To: vanagon@vanagon.com

Hi Volks!

First: Can anyone give me a difinitive answer on whether my '89 Syncro Westie has a clear coat on it or not? Did Vanagons come with clear coats? I searched the archives, got 11 matches, but nothing really black or white. The local VW dealer tells me to take it to a body shop to find out. DealUHRSSS!!! I can't deal with 'em!

Second: I lit the stove for the first time in its Westie life. Seems to work well, though I expected more flame power with an associated roaring sound; sorta like my big Primus double-burner propane outfitter's camp stove. Would someone please explain the stove control knobs to me. I turned the knobs to the center position ( "hollow flame" icon) to light the stove. No problem. Then I continued to turn the knobs counterclockwise to the "solid flame" icon, with the thinking that the flame would get bigger. The flame went OUT. So, what's that right-most position for anyway? Is my system operating properly? Or should the stove be operating in "afterburner" mode at that setting?

Otherwise, "Geez, my Vanagon is peachy." :~) Jetta's not though.
