Eric,

I dont know much about the coper reaction...

But in my '85 Westy, The rear heater will almost burn thoes sitting on the back seat and blows gobs of air to the rest of my van. But alas it has now shone a small leak and I will have to replace it! I wouldnt think of by-passing it if you live in northern climbs.
