Subject: Alaska Roadtrips! Roads are OPEN!
Comments: To: vanagon@vanagon.com

Volks:

Spoke to DOT and the NPS yesterday: The first 30 miles of the 90 mile road into Denali National Park is OPEN to the public (meaning you can drive your own Vanagon rather than riding like cattle in the NPS "school buses") from May 2 through May 22. This generally occurs every Spring, and is an excellent pre-season opportunity to visit the Park without the CROWDS, THRONGS, and HORDES; and travel in the luxury of your own rig!!! Additionally, the Denali Highway (gravel, with many spectacular vistas), which is not the road into the Park rather to the Park, will open May 15th, providing Volks already on their way up here from Outside, a more direct, adventurous, and scenic route to the Park from Paxson.

I don't have any info on the McCarthy Road, nor the Haul Road (Dalton Highway) yet.

Give the secret wave, wink, or 'possum (bring your own) twirl as you zoom by. Or stop by for a handshake and a icy cold pint of your favorite malt powered golden-elixir-attitude-fixer.
