I was recently given a 1985 Vanagon with 160k miles on it by colleague who went overseas. He had bought it second-hand and said it was working OK. Started it, ran a touch rough and took it home to check it over. Added coolant, checked to oil, put in a new air filter, and generally looked it over. When I went to restart it, it would not start - just kept turning over but no start. Since I don't have a service manual (one has been ordered), does anybody have a few hints on what to look for or any percularities on this beast in regard to starting. It has a new battery and seemed to run OK but now ..... I am pretty familar with Fords, GMC trucks and Toyotas but have never worked on a Vanagon. Any help and hints appreciated as I would like to get it running. Also, on a vehicle of this age, any ideas on future trouble would also be appreciated. Thanks. Colin Busby |
