Hi Volks,

The '86 GL I bought about 6 weeks ago is finally in top shape, thanks to the
advice and assistance of many of you on this list (and about $1,600 in
new/used parts).  Now I'm wondering what to do about the aftermarket cruise
control the PO installed.  I have absolutely no idea how one of these works,
but have found the following components which I think belong to the system:

        1. Control mounted on the steering column
        2. Twisted pair of wires that goes from the bottom of the
        steering column, under the chassis, to a doodad on the rear axle.
        3. A black can with a couple of vacuum hoses attached.

I can't find anything attached to the throttle linkage, which I expected to
find.  Should there be something there?  How does the system work?  What
advice would you offer (other than strip it off and throw it away) to get
the system working again?  Or should I scrap it and replace it with a
different device?  What would be a good source and price?   I suffer from
neuropathy of the feet, which makes it painful to constantly hold my foot in
one position, so cruise control is almost essential on a long trip.  Thanks
for any assistance.
