Chas,

Have a friend rev the bus-cold- while you stand back there and check it out. If exhaust only peters out, you hear hissing in proportion to throttle position, there is a "pinhole in the exhaust or heater boxes" sound, or the motor runs strangely quiet, you have a stuffed cat. To confirm, perform a vacuum test. Severe dips in vacuum as the engine is revved indicates an obstuction in the exhaust.

If you have confirmation that this is the case, act IMMEDIATELY. Don't risk your valves and rings in the process.

After the cat is replaced (if needed), check your vacuum once more to see if your Type IV is healthy. Valves are a problem with the 2000cc. :(

Best of luck, Sam
