Without trying to rehash old stuff I'd recommend trying a synthetic GL4
and see how that effects it.  VW recognized that there was a problem with
the syncros sticking on the 091 gearboxes and sent us a techical bullentin
telling us to switch from the petroleum base to the synthetic.  If that
doesn't
change it for you then you'll have to decide if you can either live with it or
have the trans pulled and rebuilt using the latest style 'coated' syncros.
And yes, the 091 boxes can be somewhat pricey to rebuild- I just did
two last week.
