Lonnie,
Do you have the same problem shifting into 1st with the engine off? If
not, your clutch may be dragging. How about your shift linkage? Is it
snug or can you wiggle your stick around a lot even when it's in gear?
If it's sloppy, it may be the cause of your problems.
